Even just a year ago when people thought SnapChat, they associated it with younger audiences of high school and college students. Like many technologies popularized by the youth and then adopted by the other demographics, this fun app is now officially in the top 10 apps for all age groups, according to a the new comScore report.
Adam Lella of comScore said, “Snapchat… went from being a very popular app among the younger demographics to being one of the most popular apps among the general population.”
By the end of 2016, 48% of those in the 25-34 age group were using it. Of course, it is still dominated by the 18-24 age group, with 78% of that demographic having it on their smartphones.
As more and more people in the ‘older’ generations begin using this app, it will have some big implications for marketers. The types of ads that are effective on the platform will certainly change, which will likely present a large growth opportunity for the company.
The question will be whether the youth users keep using SnapChat at current levels, or if they begin to tire of the app now that everyone is using it.
SnapChat offers a variety of advertising options that marketers can take advantage of, and with the more diverse audience it may be time to reevaluate the app to see if it would be a good fit for your company. Whether advertising on it directly, or using it to reach out to a potential audience, SnapChat has a lot to offer.
