According to a recent study from Smaato, a global real time advertising platform, mobile video outperforms all other options by 11x in terms of eCPMs.
This data was gathered after looking at information related to billions of mobile ad impressions that occurred during the first quarter of 2016.
They also found that mobile video ads perform better in-apps compared to when displayed in a normal mobile web environment. Specifically, they report that iOS apps perform nearly three times better than mobile traffic on iOS.
This information comes as part of an overall positive report for digital marketing in general and mobile video specifically. Also in the report it was found that mobile ad spend went up by 89% globally over the past year. South America was dubbed the ‘Emerging Mobile MVP’ with an almost doubled eCPM in the first quarter.
China had an amazing growth rate over the past year too, with a growth of 1198% in total ad spend.

For example, Brazil’s emerging mobile market saw quarterly mobile ad spend grow a surprising 121% in Q1 year-over-year – almost as much as the healthy US market at +130% – despite major economic and political challenges.”
