Huh? Much of Local Search is Often Not from Locals?

For businesses, capturing the local search results for their niche is extremely important.  This is because those who are looking for a local product or business are much more likely to actually come out and make a purchase than just about anyone else.  According to a recent study, however, many of the local searches are actually coming from non-locals.

Depending on the industry, research finds that as much as 33% of local search is being conducted by visitors to the area.  Of course, some niches are going to be significantly lower than this.  It really makes sense when you think about it since people visiting an area are much more likely to need help finding a place to get a particular product or service.

What is potentially even more important is the fact that when people are visiting an area, they are much more likely to be in the mood to spend their money.  Whether they are traveling on business or they are traveling on vacation, it is much more likely that they will be willing to go make a purchase.

As business owners or marketers, it is important to keep this in mind.  Thinking about how travelers would be searching for the products or services being offered is a great way to target them and bring them in to make a purchase.
