Video Ads Coming to Pinterest

A new report confirms that Pinterest is testing video ads with a limited number of users.  Many people have been expecting this for quite some time now given the popularity of video ads on other social media sites.  In fact, Pinterest seems to be one of the few major players that don’t already use this popular option.

Similar to Facebook and other platforms, the videos will automatically play when they enter the user’s screen and stop when scrolled off.  It is not yet clear whether they will launch muted, which is the standard on other sites.

These ads will not be replacing current Cinematic Pins, which users have been seeing for a while now.  Instead these video ads will be able to be displayed alongside them as a new option.

There is no word on how long this testing will go on for, but it is likely that we’ll see an announcement in the coming weeks concerning a timeline for launch.  Virtually everyone in the online marketing industry expects that Pinterest will be pushing this ad format out quickly to take advantage of the rapid growth of online video advertising.
