Study: When to Plan Your Black Friday Email Blasts

With ‘Black Friday’ right around the corner it is time to figure out exactly what you’re going to do to get your piece of the biggest shopping day of the year.  For many marketers this means getting messages ready to send out to your email list to try to get them to spend their money on your products or products you’re promoting.

Yesmail has completed a study of last year’s email marketing results conducted through them as well as Black Friday Facebook posts and discovered that the majority of marketers are waiting too long to send out messages.  The majority of marketing emails went out on Thanksgiving Day or Black Friday itself.

The Monday before Black Friday, however, enjoyed the highest open rates in both 2013 and 2014.  The Tuesday prior is nearly as strong, making it the second best day to send them out.  Wednesday, however, had extremely low open rates compared to the rest of the week and even lower than a typical Wednesday at any other time of the year.

The study does not go into detail on why this might be, but the stats seem to be solid and should give marketers a very good idea of when they should be sending out any email marketing messages (and when they should avoid sending them).

Most marketers are well aware of the fact that it is often these types of small things that can have significant impacts on the overall conversion rate and the profits earned.  Take some time to think about when you will be sending out your email blasts to your list and get them ready to go today to get the most out of this year’s Black Friday event.
