Mike Melgaard stumbled upon internet fame last month by impersonating a Target representative on their official Facebook page. Target announced that they would be removing gender labels from the toy section, and certain cantankerous consumers lashed out against the change, citing everything from personal confusion to religious conviction. Melgaard took them to task with sarcastic comebacks, fulfilling the darkest fantasies of customer service representatives everywhere.
On September 17th, Doritos announced their partnership with the It Gets Better Project. Â Doritos created special-edition rainbow-colored chips to support the project, which are sent as thank-you gifts to anyone who donates $10 or more. Itgetsbetter.org was created by Dan Savage and Terry Miller in response to the high number of LGBTQ teens who commit suicide due to bullying, harassment, and familial abandonment. The project gives hope and support to struggling LGBTQ youth world-wide.
Regardless of the nobility of the cause, some Facebook users took high offense to the rainbow-colored chips cluttering up their news feeds. It seems that, to some, protecting our most vulnerable citizens is less important than projecting their version of morality onto the masses. Mike Malgaard responded by creating Doritos ForHelp, augmenting his trolling career for the good of humanity.
Some people appeared to be confused as to what the rainbow symbolizes. Or confused about what homosexuality means. Or just confused in general. Doritos ForHelp was happy to set them straight (so to speak):
Doritos ForHelp took a firm stance against outdated ideas:
Of course, some of these people get a pass. We can only assume that anyone who is this unaware of how the system works has literally spent the last five years living under a rock, in the woods, out of wifi range.  We should be congratulating him for learning to use the internet at all:
Unfortunately, the Doritos ForHelp account was shut down in less than 24 hours. We can only hope he had enough time to educate a few people; at the very least, his shenanigans provided ample entertainment, and increased awareness of the campaign.
