A new survey from the UK was recently published that shows that a large majority of consumers say that video and multimedia with ‘real life’ content drives them to make purchases. The survey was conducted with 2000 consumers. This survey was published by Brightcove under the title, “Why video is the perfect fit: A look into the future of online shopping.’
In addition to seeing that video is extremely effective, the survey asked a number of other important questions that will give marketers some valuable insights into what they need to be offering to their customers to get the best results.
For example, 65% of respondents said that they miss the ability to ‘try, touch and feel’ products before making a purchase. This is a significant obstacle for many digital marketers, but may be one that can be overcome with better return policies and things like that.
Another important piece of information is that about 45% of Brits expect to do their online shopping via a mobile device. Younger respondents between the age of 16-25 years old replied at a rate of 90% that they would be using mobile devices.
The study was broken down based on age group because of the fact that the behaviors of people online is largely impacted by their age. Older generations that didn’t grow up using computers, much less online shopping, are slower to adopt newer technologies. The youngest generation of shoppers, on the other hand, seem willing to try just about any platform and evaluate whether it fits their needs or not.
