Rakuten LinkShare, a global leader in performance marketing, has recently published a press release where they went over their results during ‘digital week’ which includes Thanksgiving, Black Friday and Cyber Monday. They experienced double-digit growth, year over year, and “unprecedented results in transactions conducted on mobile devices.”
This is just the latest report we’re seeing about how many companies and marketers who harnessed the power of mobile in 2014 are seeing big returns. Online shopping in general continues to grow at a rapid pace, often overshadowing retail stores in many markets.
Some specific numbers included in the press release from Rakuten LinkShare include:
Thanksgiving
- · Mobile sales increased 85% year over year
- · Smartphones were used for 6.8% of sales, an increase of 162% from the previous year
- · Tablet transactions increased 60% year over year, representing 12.8% of all sales
Black Friday
- · Mobile sales increased 64% year over year
- · Same store sales increased 44% year over year
- · Tablet based sales went up by 47% YOY, to 11.9% of sales
Cyber Monday
- · Mobile sales increased 60% YOY
- · Tablet sales went up by 46% to 9.4% of total sales, YOY
- · Same store sales went up 41% from last year
Yaz Lida, the chief executive officer with Rakuten LinkShare said, “Over the past few years, online retailers have experienced record-breaking kickoffs to the holiday shopping season. As they look for even greater gains, we’re committed to providing the most advanced technology and services that will ensure their success during the busy holiday season and throughout the year.”
Not surprisingly, the top grossing categories during this time period were computers & electronics, apparel and video games. These are traditionally big sellers during this time of year.
